“Chaos and Order are not enemies, only opposites.”
— Richard Garriott
That one quote can change your whole outlook on writing, art, or anything that is in essence creating your own world.
It’s something thats always been assumed since the dawn of storytelling.. But what if Chaos and Order were in love, or related.
It’s not a completely original thought, writers have touched on it before, especially in the “uniting against a common foe” scenario, but it can be such a deeper subject.
In the anime series, Inuyasha, not only is the title character a slight representation of Chaos kicking it on the side of good, but there’s a deep story about his brother who is inherently evil and opposes him because of jealousy and racism because of mixed breeding. Yet through the introduction of a small girl, who becomes a daughter-like companion of the brother, the brother becomes a much deeper character and the lines are blurred.
“good can’t help but do a little evil, evil can’t help but do a little good.”
- Tom Waits
Writers who dare to twist these age old tried and true formulas are the one’s I really respect. My thanks to the great minds.
Dammit! The Nazis ruined the picnic table!
Watching the kids play.. Draw something completely random, then caption it by what it says to you. Fun.
Sitting at the park with the kids, hiding in a corner so no one notices I’m drawing ridiculously large asses.
